Vertical Landscape Architects Inc., visited the Green Roof at the new Halifax Market. The extensive green roof is integrated with a rooftop patio overlooking the historic Halifax harbour and small wind turbines that help power the Market. Plantings consist mostly of sedum ground cover and chives in an interesting pattern. Considering the harsh winter climate and constant wind exposure in this location, the plants seem to be doing quite well. This project is a testament to how rooftops (and walls) can be converted into beneficial and desirable amenities with living architecture.
